Muscle of the Month - Masseters
You have a pair of masseter muscles located on either side of your jaw. Place your hands on the sides of your face and clench down - can you feel them? You may not be able to palpate them or perhaps they are quite prominent. Masseters originate from your zygomatic arch (cheek bones) into your coronoid process (bony tip in lower jaw). The masseter function is to chew and grind food. However, in some people the grind is so strong it can lead to tension headaches, neck discomfort, widened appearance of the face, and dental issues. If your masseters are causing you discomfort we may be able to assist with in clinic treatments.
Muscle of the Month - Procerus & Corrugator
We list these muscles together as they are what form your “frown” between your eyebrows. The procerus sits between your eyebrows and works to pull them inward. You have two corrugator muscles that sit medially over the top of your eyebrows and draw them inwards. Look in the mirror, are your procerus and corrugators working to make a frown? This is probably one of the most disliked areas that people report as it makes them look angry or creates static lines. If it bothers you book in for a chat today about your treatment options.
